Trump Donates First Quarter of Salary to National Parks Service

In an interesting move, on Monday afternoon, Sean Spicer announced that President Donald Trump will be donating the first quarter of his salary to the National Parks Service. Trump had formerly stated that he would be donating his salary, but he never got more specific as to exactly here the money would go. Many people assumed it would be a charity, but instead he has chosen to cycle the tax payer dollars back into the government

“The president is personally proud to contribute the first quarter of his salary to the important mission of the Park Service,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer told a news briefing. “It is every penny the president received … from Jan. 20 noon forward.”

The relationship between folks over at NPS hasn’t always been butterflies and rainbows. NPS’ social media accounts were put on a gag order by the trump administration after retweeting a a tweet critical of Trump’s inaugural day attendance.

Is Trump trolling, or is that incident just water under the bridge? Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke seems thrilled by the announcement.

“We are going to dedicate and put it against the infrastructure on our nation’s battlefields,” said  Zinke. “We are about $229 million behind in deferred maintenance on our battlefields alone.”
