Bridget Alex, a Dallas, Texas mother says her baby died as a result of issues with 911. According to CBS Dallas FW, the baby’s sitter called 911 three times and after finally getting through the third time was put on hold for over 20 minutes before hanging up. Bridget came home and brought the baby to the hospital herself where he died shortly after.
The city says that over 400 calls were placed on hold that night and has been plagued with problems regarding the system for months now. Initially it was chalked up to “ghost calls” clogging the system and causing the problems which have been partially responsible for at least two deaths.
The city of Dallas says it is working on technology upgrades and starting this weekend will add 12 more 911 operators to its rolls.
