After a year long ban on nudes in it’s print edition the popular magazine Playboy has brought back nude editions of it’s print magazine. The initial decision to show off less was due to the online market in the industry. Cooper Hefner the son Hugh Hefner and now current Playboy chief creative officer called the nudity ban a mistake on Twitter.
Magazine expert and journalism professor Sam Husni said the nudity ban at Playboy probably alienated more readers than attracted. “Playboy and the idea of non-nudity is sort of an oxymoron,” said Husni.
The challenge ahead for Playboy is to figure out what is more desirable in the 21st century. Many readers who grew up with the 63 year old magazine are dying off now.
